Tilman Herpichböhm was born in Augsburg in 1984 and took his first drum lessons on his 7th birthday. For academic instrumenal studies he later moved to Nuremberg, where he got a degree in arts and pedagogics in 2010 at the Musikhochschule Nürnberg and a master’s degree there in 2012, graduating with summa cum laude.

Since 2008 Tilman has been teaching drumset at various institutions, currently exclusively on a private basis in Augsburg. As a freelance musician, he is open to all stylistic directions, including popular music, free improvisation, theatre and musicals and also modern orchestra works. However, his artistic home is jazz music and all of its subdivisions.

Since school Tilman has gained experience of all kinds on stage, writes his own music, has performed in a variety of musical and theatre productions and has appeared on stage with a number of music groups of every stylistics.

Continuing in the tradition of no-harmony quartets, Tilman founded in his own band Jilman Zilman in 2010. In 2012 his debut album was released with Tilman’s originals; the band was nominated for the New German Jazz Award (Neuer deutscher Jazzpreis) 2013 and came in second place for the International Jazz Award Burghausen 2013.
